With the New Mexico State fair in full action and all its activities don?t miss out on a unique competition, the Miss Indian New Mexico pageant.
Contestants compete in the traditional Native American talent & the skills competition and are crowned with a silver turquoise embellished crown, with each 24 turquoise stones encircling the Miss Indian New Mexico Organization logo representing the 24 tribes in New Mexico.
The New Mexico Council for American Indians hopes to mix Native American traditions and cultures within non-Indian cultures and increase the Miss Indian New Mexico scholarship awards along with other scholarships to Native American students.
The pageant began in 1964 and has crowned winners from the Navajo, Apache, Cheyenne, Pueblo, Hopi, Pawnee & Sioux tribes. This year?s pageant will be held at the Indian Village at the New Mexico State Fair, Sunday September 16 at 6 p.m.
